Even though Sage ERP X3 Version 6.5 was released over a year ago, some customers have been too busy to explore the new features - or simply haven’t had time to even upgrade. So let’s take a look at some of the “usability enhancements” that can often fly under the radar.
While these aren’t major product enhancements that grab all the headlines like Electronic Document Management or Business Intelligence, this collection of minor improvements can have a major impact on your productivity.
Unlimited Notes on Inventory Items
This new feature allows you to attach unlimited notes to the items you stock or sell. You can also specify where those notes display (i.e. Order Entry, Shipping) and for how long using effective and expiration dates. You can even set up multiple notes (on the same item) that display to different users in the system (shipping manager, sales reps, etc).
Three-Way Matching
New 3-way matching functionality allows you to control how much your receipts and invoices can deviate from the original purchase order. This “best practice” accounting procedure helps you avoid paying incorrect, or perhaps fraudulent, invoices by comparing quantities, price per unit, etc. on the suppliers invoice to the purchase order and quantities actually received. In Sage ERP X3, you can set over/under tolerances, display warnings onscreen, and allow employees to override and continue, depending on security.
A/R and A/P Terms Discounts
This enhancement allows you to apply early payment discounts, such as 2% 10 Net 30, in both Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable. You also have options to set discounts based on grace period, number of allowance days, set a specified date range, and more.
Sales Order Hold Codes
New user-defined hold codes, such as “late pay” or “credit limit,” can be added to sales orders so your staff saves time trying to figure out why an order is on hold - it’s now displayed right on the screen. Security settings allow you to designate certain personnel to override the hold. In situations where a key customer places an order that puts them close to their credit limit, a Manual Order Hold allows you to validate the order before it’s processed and shipped.
Other Notables
New Postal Code Enhancements allow you to import postal code lists and correct existing codes which saves data entry time and improves the accuracy of shipping and mailing. Pricing and Restriction by State Code applies restriction for certain goods, like alcohol or firearms, allowing you to operate in confidence knowing Sage X3 6.5 will automatically apply them appropriately for each state.
